Infrared Distance Sensors

• Infrared (IR) sensors consist of an LED that emits an IR signal and an IR detector that changes value in the presence of an IR signal.
  

• IR proximity devices, such as the Sharp GP2G12, contain both the emitter and detector in the same housing.
  

• These devices output a variable voltage proportional to proximity that can be read directly from an analog pin of the Arduino.

• IR proximity sensors are designed to work in specific distance ranges. Accuracy may degrade for dark objects and/or with varying light conditions.
